A Suitcase for the Archive: Heinrich Mann
In the new series ‘A suitcase for the archive’, the Akademie der Künste provides insights into the estates of exiled artists. Look over the archivists' shoulders as they open the suitcases they have brought with them and tell the stories behind some special pieces from the exile archives.
The opening event is dedicated to the writer Heinrich Mann and his working library, which accompanied him on his exile in France and the USA before arriving in Berlin posthumously.
Nelly Mann called her husband's library ‘irreplaceable’. Many traces of reading show that Heinrich Mann's book collection was also his working environment, workshop and source of inspiration in exile. Gabriele Radecke and Susanne Thier bring along the most beautiful volumes from his collection and talk about Heinrich Mann's exile archive. And they will go in search of traces in the poet's personal library.
