Olga Grjasnowa: Narrating Exile

Writer Olga Grjasnowa, who became famous with her debut novel All Russians Love Birch Trees, was born in Baku, Azerbaijan into a Russian-Jewish family. She came to Germany with her family as a “contingent refugee” at age 11. She processes her experience of departure and arrival in her novels that address life in a foreign country and tell of the coexistence of various cultures.

In conversation with the journalist Nadine Kreuzahler, Olga Grjasnowa will speak about subjects such as the meaning of background, arrival in a new society, and what it means to speak several languages.

The event is part of the series Schreiben über Exil, a cooperation between Körber-Stiftung and Stiftung Exilmuseum Berlin.
